Shortly after the video showing his execution by Islamic State (IS, formally ISIS) terrorists was authenticated by American and Israeli intelligence agencies Wednesday afternoon, the Israeli Foreign Minister released a statement confirming that freelance journalist Steven Sotloff was a dual citizen of both the US and Israel. The information had been withheld previously because the Israeli government thought it would put Satloff in additional danger. Satloff was held hostage by IS for several months following his abduction while reporting on the war in Syria in late 2013, managing to observe his Jewish religion while in captivity while hiding it from IS, according to one of his fellow prisoners.
