Air strikes led by the US hit multiple targets belonging to the Islamic State (IS, formally ISIS) terror militia in both Iraq and Syria over the weekend, hitting oil production and refining facilities in northern Syria on Sunday which IS has commandeered and used to fund their operations. Large fires were observed at the facilities hit. Strikes were also carried out in and around Raqqa, the de facto IS capital in Syria, as well as IS held positions in and around the city of Fallujah in Iraq. Meanwhile, strikes in Syria which killed a leader of the Al-Qaida linked Al Nusra Front prompted a threat by the group’s spokesman to carry out terrorist attacks against Arab and Western countries who have joined in the US-led air campaign.
