El Paso Public Health Director Robert Resendes said Thursday that of the eight, five babies had been vaccinated previously against TB and their results may be false positives. Preventive medical treatments have been offered for all eight.
None of the babies has active TB, the deadly and contagious form of the disease.
Health authorities also raised to 860 the number of infants possibly exposed at Providence Memorial Hospital. The hospital says it passed the first inspection by federal health authorities and inspectors will return in December.
The worker reported TB-related symptoms in July but was allowed to continue working for weeks.
