From: Carol Bauer
Capital Prayer Alert
As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol’s thoughts with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. — Gary
If you get Gary’s “End of Day Report” you are probably more interested in public policy than the average voting-age American. No doubt you follow the news and are up-to-date on recent polls.
In many states early voting is already underway and turn out even now is higher than expected. Voters will weigh a number of issues as they consider for whom to cast their ballot. Foremost in their minds is likely to be economic growth, American foreign policy and the general question of “Do you think the country is headed in the right or wrong direction?”
I encourage you to challenge friends and acquaintances to come off the sidelines and get engaged in this important election.
It is always amazing to me when I run across someone who has strong opinions on the issues of the day but does not vote. The reasons are myriad: a sense that one vote doesn’t count, a feeling that the system is rigged, an opinion that there is no difference between the two major parties. The list is endless.
But America is at a crossroads. Every citizen has a responsibility to do their part in deciding the course of our country by voting.
Thank our Heavenly Father for the personal and financial sacrifices America’s Founding Fathers endured to launch this experiment in democracy. Thank Him for those who have defended America’s freedom and the right of others around the world to enjoy similar blessings of liberty, free speech and worship. Pray that God will lead you to opportunities to encourage those who may not see the direct connection between the blessings we enjoy as Christian citizens and the responsibility to vote and shape the future of the country we will pass on to our children and grandchildren.
Ask Him for boldness and the strength to speak the truth in a winsome and engaging way to maximize your influence in your circle of connections. Ask God to open your eyes to indirect ways to provide that encouragement to a potential voter . . . an offer of a ride to the polls on Election Day, an offer of a ride to vote early for someone who may be out of town on Election Day, an offer to babysit for a young mother so she can make it to vote, an offer to set up a voter education table at your place of worship with a reminder in the bulletin. The list goes on. Pray that God will use you in ways you cannot even imagine!
Finally, please lift up in prayer the pastors in Houston, Texas, who are being ordered to submit copies of their sermons which preach the Word of God on matters of marriage and human sexuality. Their First Amendment rights are being cast aside, their religious liberty and protections totally undermined.
This is not happening in a totalitarian regime in a far off country but right here in culturally conservative Texas. The demands of the homosexual rights movement have crossed the line and America’s churches must stand together. The lack of a united, strong defense of the right of these pastors to preach the Word will only encourage similar actions elsewhere.
