Close the Door on Fear

Where does fear come from? Why do we feel afraid?

Though there are different avenues for fear to enter our lives, one way that it does hit me last night while studying Genesis 3.

Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ So he said, ‘I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself’” (Genesis 3:9-10 NKJV).

Adam and Eve enjoyed a comfy life of walking and talking with the Lord in the garden. Then came along the crafty serpent who enticed Eve to eat from the only tree in the garden that was forbidden. Then she gave the fruit to her husband. They both disobeyed God and they knew it.

We know when we do wrong. We usually feel that twinge or ping go off in our heads, but then we dismiss it just like Adam and Eve did, choosing our own way instead of God’s way.

Adam knew he did wrong. When God called for him, Adam hid. Why? Because he was afraid!

Fear comes into our lives when we sin. Sin is disobeying God and that opens the door for fear.

Scripture tells us that fear is a spirit.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

The spirit of fear is not from God, but from the evil one who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. If the enemy can place fear into our lives, we run and hide from God. If we are hiding from God, we are not walking in right relationship with God and fulfilling our destiny.

My friends, let’s close this door the door to the spirit of fear by walking in obedience to God. When we sin, we must confess and repent quickly to keep the door closed to this spirit operating in our lives.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 NKJV).

Confess and God is faithful to forgive. That closes the door on fear!

Brothers and sisters, if there is fear in you today, stop hiding from God. Run to Him and seek the Lord for the source of the fear through prayer and reading His Word. He desires to love on you, for His perfect love casts out fear!
