Why is the public not paying attention to this! Where is the outrage? Where is the call to action from the public? Why is this not at the center of the debate for Governor, instead of all their mudslinging? I am sick and tired of all talk and no action! The next death by a drunk may be you or me!
It seems to me New Mexico is celebrating the wrong thing! Each time a brewery opens up their is a big Chamber of Commerce moment! We need to have a come to Jesus meeting on booze here in this state!
Alcoholism is an epidemic in New Mexico, the state leads the nation in alcohol related deaths. Why do we allow drunks to continue to drive! I have said for years one strike and your out, you go to prison for 1 year and treatment and your license is suspended for 2 years and your car is impounded. and you pay a $5,000 fine that goes to support law enforcement. No if’s and but’s! YOU GET LOCKED UP! Lives are at stake, innocent lives are being taken from us because of drunks! I ask again, why does New Mexico love alcohol so much? We need stronger deterrents! Why was this guy still driving? Authorities in New Mexico say a Tome man has been arrested on suspicion of DWI for the sixth time.
State Police say 60-year-old Michael Perea was pulled over on State Road 47 near Belen for failing to maintain his vehicle’s lane of travel.
The officer who made the traffic stop detected an odor of alcohol on Perea’s breath along with blood-shot, watery eyes and slurred speech.
Perea admitted to drinking four beers earlier.
Authorities say a breath test showed Perea had a blood-alcohol level of at least .16 percent and was arrested.
He was booked into the Valencia County Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug and driving on a revoked license.
