Heading into their only debate Thursday night, Democratic Sen. Tom Udall and his Republican challenger, Allen Weh, are in a race that is much closer that many believed it would ever be. The polls are showing different numbers, but it is a far more interesting race than I thought it would be.  Weh has poured on the heat the last few weeks, he has called out Udall, has this really ever been done before, calling our Udall? Udall will take off his Mister Rogers sweater and face the former Marine Colonel Weh in a debate Thursday.

If, and this is a big IF, the Republican party can get the voters out, this could be an historic upset, the biggest ever in New Mexico history?

The upcoming debate is huge!

The Santa Fe New Mexican is reporting these poll numbers:

A survey for The New York Times shows Udall with a 16-point lead, 52 percent to 36 percent.

A far different forecast came from Vox Polling of Alexandria, Va. Its poll showed Weh in striking distance, trailing Udall 47 percent to 43 percent.

A third poll for the Albuquerque Journal has Weh gaining in the last month but down by 7 points, 50 percent to 43 percent.

All three polls were taken during the same period, the third week of October.
Weh has pressed for debates with Udall throughout the campaign and He finally will get one.

Former ABC News White House Correspondent Sam Donaldson will be the moderator. 80 year old Donaldson, grew up in Southern New Mexico.

The debate between Udall and Weh will be broadcast on public television KNME and public radio at 7 p.m. Thursday. The debate will air again on Friday at noon on KOB TV Channel 4.

Please vote, Frank Haley told me today that a man told him it does not vote because he lives far out in the country and nothing affects him. That is just a wrong attitude! It is our duty as American citizens to vote, if you don’t vote, you have no right to complain!
