Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hosted a Bible Study at the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem on Sunday, focusing on a Rabbinical teaching from the Middle Ages which says the first verse of Genesis tells the story of God creating the world in order to provide the Jews with a defense against those who say they “stole” the land of Israel from others. If God created the world, the reasoning goes, He can give it to whomever He wants, and doesn’t need the permission or approval of mortal humans who He also created. Several guests participated in the study session, including the parents of the three teens – Naphtali Fraenkel, Gil-Ad Shaer and Eyal Yifrah – kidnapped and murdered this summer. Netanyahu’s wife Sarah and his two sons also participated, along with several distinguished Israeli rabbis and scholars. In related news, Netanyahu’s recent trip to the US, which included an address before the United Nations General Assembly, meetings with President Barak Obama and several prominent Jewish community leaders as well as interviews with major media outlets, has increased his popularity among Israelis, according to a poll released on Sunday.Click here to watch some of the interviews Netanyahu gave in the US
