US Secretary of State John Kerry met on Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordan’s King Abdullah in Amman, declaring that it is imperative for calm to be restored in Jerusalem in order for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to continue. “The status quo is clear and the status quo will be maintained. The prime minister has made it clear that he will uphold that,” Kerry said, adding that the two leaders had agreed to continue working together against the rising tide of extremism in the region. “I was pleased that Netanyahu and [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud] Abbas made clear their desire to see this situation deescalated and move in the right direction,” Kerry said.
