Be careful, we have hackers, we have identity theft…now fake money? A single mother in Oklahoma says she is both furious and humiliated after she
was given a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill at Walmart. Kayla Benham says
she tried to use the money to buy groceries and was treated like a criminal.
Not sure I’d blame Walmart so directly!!! This happens EVERY DAY of the year at almost EVERY retailer chain across the country. All it takes is one very busy clerk who accidentally doesn’t check a bill close enough when they accept it from a customer and then, completely without intent, gives it back out as change to another customer. Some of these counterfeit bills are EXTREMELY well done and can even fool seasoned clerks. As an ex-retail manager doing daily bank runs, I have personally received counterfeit bills from the bank themselves!!! It’s quite easy to have happen and it happens every day!!!!!!
The occurrences of this increases anytime a busy season is expected due to the high number of bills transiting through the retail environment and it’s less likely someone intentionally trying to pass them off is to get caught. (Christmas shopping season, state fair seasons, balloon fiesta, almost any holiday, etc., etc.)
To blame Walmart specifically is a little irresponsible in my opinion!
