Israeli security forces in the West Bank (Illustrative)Israeli President Reuven Rivlin addressed The Jerusalem Post Diplomatic Conference on Thursday, expressing condolences for the death of Palestinian Minister Ziad Abu Ein during a confrontation with Israeli troops the day before and declaring that Israel “is committed to carrying out a thorough investigation into the events of his death. Israel will act according to the rule of law.” He added that Israelis and Palestinians “have a duty to be responsible and encourage calm.” He spoke following an address by Maj.-Gen. Nimrod Shefer, head of the IDF Planning Directorate, who said that Israel hopes to continue security coordination with the Palestinian Authority, despite heightened tensions.
