New Mexico is in Economic Trouble

News and Views-DeweyNew Mexico Broadcast Hall-of-Famer Frank Haley sent me this story today…..it is something we have pounded away for years on radio, TV and now FGGAM, New Mexico has failed to diversify it’s economy, and it’s paying a huge price! No matter who has been in charge at the State Capital, this failure is constant. No matter what the political figure heads are saying, New Mexico is in deep economic trouble, just the debt of the Railrunner and Spaceport is enough to bury the state in red ink for years and years.  New Mexico has an unusual wealth gap: Unlike other states, New Mexico’s richest residents work mainly in the public sector, while almost everyone else is employed in the private sector….

That dynamic is both a blessing and a curse. Federal dollars, along with the energy industry in southeastern New Mexico, have fueled the state’s economy for decades. Besides Los Alamos, the state is home to Sandia National Laboratories, three Air Force bases, the Army’s White Sands Missile Range and several national forests and parks.

But critics say an inability to diversify the economy has exacerbated income disparities. They say that at a time of tight federal budgets, the state can no longer afford to stake its economic future on government spending.

What can you and I do about this? We need to pray for Godly leaders in this state, those who will recognize the ultimate authority, Almighty God, and be led by the Holy Spirit and His Word.

We don’t need anymore people to keep dressing up a pig, just people that will tell us the truth, the good and bad.
