Palestinian Authority Considers Suspending Security Ties With Israel

Police and security forces in the West Bank and Jerusalem were reinforced and on high alert Friday following the funeral Thursday evening of Palestinian Authority official Ziad Abu Ein, who died on Wednesday following a physical and verbal confrontation with Israeli soldiers during a demonstration outside the village of Turmus Aiya in the West Bank. PA officials were reportedly meeting to discuss suspending security cooperation with Israel as Israeli and Palestinian doctors who were present at the autopsy of Abu Ein continued to offer conflicting narratives about his probable cause of his death. Despite apologies for the incident and appeals for calm from Israeli officials, several PA officials have issued statements condemning Israel for “the murder of Abu Ein” and on Friday afternoon there were scattered reports of suspected acts of terror against Israelis in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
