Taiwan on Sunday ordered the slaughter of 16,000 geese and ducks to try to curb
a bird flu outbreak that has already led to the culling of 120,000 chickens. The
H5N8 virus had previously hit Europe, South Korea, Japan, Canada and the United
States, prompting the culling of poultry.
