Godly Friendship

I asked FGGAM Board member Kathy Garcia of Albuquerque, NM if I could post this wonderful tribute that she wrote about her Dear, Dear, friend Martha Fitch….what a message for all of us!

Last night a wonderful, beautiful and godly woman, Martha Fitch went home. Martha was my spiritual mother, mentor and friend for more than 30 years. Many women will be able to say the same for themselves. During those years we worked, played, vacationed and served God together. Martha was the truest of friend as she often times spoke correction into my life, prayed me through some of my darkest hours, gave me affirmation when I needed reassurance. She allowed me that same privilege in her life. We laughed and cried together. We would at times literally pray together for hours at a time. She loved my mother, daughters and grandchildren. She gave of her life to them. She believed in me no matter any controversy that might have been presenting itself. She knew me well and trusted what she knew. There is a huge gaping hole in my heart without her, but I know she has won her race and obtained the gold. She ran her race and many lives were changed or were enhanced because of her life. I love you Martha, thank you for loving me.

What a tremendous testimony of Godly friendship! Thank you Kathy for this message! God Bless you and God Bless the memory of Martha!

What kind of friendships do you have?

Are you a trusted friend?

Do you gossip?

Do you buy into rumors?

Are you double minded?

Proverbs 18:24

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

Proverbs 27:17

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Proverbs 27:9

Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.
