Lebanese political leaders led a chorus of condemnation Wednesday for the attacks on Israeli soldiers by the Shi’ite terror militia Hezbollah. In comments echoed by many others, Lebanese Christian parliamentarian Samir Geagea told The Daily Star that “Hezbollah has no right to implicate the Lebanese people in a battle with Israel. There is a government and a parliament which can decide on that.” EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini agreed, declaring “The threats to Israel on its Northern border must stop. The attacks on the Lebanese-Israeli border are undermining the cessation of hostilities established by UNSC Resolution 1701 and the peace building efforts along the Blue Line.” Similar statements were made by the US State Department and several other governments.
