A Los Alamos High School graduate won a close race Sunday to become the first female president of Croatia.
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, who spent her senior year in Los Alamos and graduated in 1986, was elected with a little more than half the vote.
In a place known for world class scientists and a school that produces future researchers, the 46 yr old is the first graduate of Los Alamos High School to become president of a country.
She served in the Croatian embassy in Canada for a time and was elected to the Croatian Parliament in 2003.
