An invitation by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives John Boehner to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress on the subject of Iran has caused another flare-up in diplomatic tensions between Netanyahu and the Administration of US President Barak Obama. A statement by the White House that Netanyahu was acting outside the normal diplomatic protocols by accepting the invitation without consulting them was at least temporarily allayed on Wednesday when Secretary of State John Kerry publically said Netanyahu was welcome to address Americans at “any time.” Netanyahu’s address to Congress is scheduled for 11 February.
