Likud Opens Lead in Israeli Elections

Netanyahu (Israel Government Press Office photograph)The Likud Party of incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened up a four seat lead over its main rivals in the Zionist Union party of Isaac Herzog and Tzipe Livne in a Panels Research poll taken for The Jerusalem Post and its Hebrew sister publication Maariv Sof Hashavua. Analysts believe the surge in support for Likud has come at the expense of Bayit Yehudi and other right-wing parties as scandals and strategic mistakes have rocked those parties. The same poll also recorded a growing number of people who have made up their minds about who to vote for in the coming elections and a corresponding declining number of people who remain undecided.
