Obama Delivers Another Jolt to Israel-U.S. Relations

US President Barack Obama gave an interview to VoxTuesday in which he described the shooting attacks which killed four Jews in a kosher deli in Paris last year as “random” violence. “It is entirely legitimate for the American people to be deeply concern when you have a bunch of violent, vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shot a bunch of folks in a Deli in Paris,” Obama said. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest added fuel to the controversy during a press conference later in the day when he said the victims were “killed not because of who they were, but because of where they randomly happened to be.” Later Administration attempts at damage control met with mixed results, even as commentators continued to debate the effect on Israeli-US relations of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming speech before a joint session of Congress.
