Smuggling Interceptions Highlight Shadow War Against Terrorism

The shadowy war against terrorist networks planning attacks against Israel continues on several fronts as was demonstrated this week by two far flung interceptions of contraband meant for building weapons, one on the sea off the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and the other in the West Bank. Security officials announced on Wednesday that a boat loaded with fiberglass resin, meant to be used in the fabrication of rockets, was intercepted by the Israeli Navy last month on its way from the Egyptian Sinai. The three Gaza residents on the boat admitted to the attempt to bring weapons-making materials into the Strip. “Recently, Hamas has invested much in exploiting naval smuggling routes, partly due to Egypt’s efforts to prevent smuggling tunnels that linked Sinai and Gaza,” said a statement by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency.)
