Sunday evening saw a massive number of Israelis flocking to Rabin Square in Tel Aviv for a rally to support Right wing political parties in the upcoming elections, with incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu giving a keynote address to motivate the base. “There is a real danger of a leftwing government, even though most of the public doesn’t want [Zionist Union leaders] Tzipi [Livni] and Buji [Isaac Herzog] as prime minister and want to see me continue,” Netanyahu said. “We have to close the gap; we can close the gap.” He went on to list the areas where his government has held firm on issues close to the heart of many in the crowd, including standing up to international pressure to compromise on Israel’s security, building in Jewish communities in the West Bank and refusing to agree to the division of Jerusalem.
