Netanyahu Speaks Before Wildly Supportive AIPAC Conference

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Conference in Washington DC Monday evening in a 20 minute speech which was widely billed as a warm-up to his address before a joint session of Congress Tuesday morning. “You’re here to tell the world that reports of the demise of the Israeli-US relations is not only premature, they’re just wrong,” Netanyahu told the assembled delegates that his speech before Congress is “not intended to show any disrespect to President [Barack] Obama or the esteemed office that he holds.” Reiterating his oft-repeated warnings about the dangers of Iran’s renegade nuclear program and the need to confront it, he added that in the past, the Jewish People “were utterly powerless against our enemies who swore to destroy us.
