Middle East political map (Illustrative)US President Barack Obama spoke with the leaders of Arab countries in the Middle East on Tuesday to try and reassure them of his support in the ongoing battle against what he described as “Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region” despite the ongoing negotiations over the Islamic Republic’s renegade nuclear program. White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes reiterated this during an interview Tuesday withal-Arabiya in which he declared, among other things, “If you have a situation where one of our partners like Saudi Arabia is threatened from external aggression let’s say through Iran we will come to their defense.” This followed his interview Monday with Israel’sChannel 2 in which he said “Certainly, if Iran violates the agreement, all options are on the table related to Iran, including military options.”  However, there is growing signs that many leaders in the region don’t believe these reassurances.
