As a retired United States Navy Chief Petty Officer I find this report very disturbing as it seems there is some considerable confusion in Washington D.C. concerning the mission of a Navy Task Force in the Middle East.
Being the only Carrier Task Force in the Persian Gulf conducting operations against the Islamic State, (ISIL), it appears that our air strike support has now been halted as the USS Theodore Roosevelt and it’s associated multi-ship task force has been re-tasked to shadow an Iranian group of ships suspected of trying to deliver arms to Iranian backed rebels in Yemen, a violation of a United Nations arms embargo, where Saudi Arabia is conducting strikes against those same rebels.
Our Navy, and all our military forces, stand at the ready 24/7 to do the job when called upon but there is nothing more dangerous than a military force in a tense situation which could easily turn in to a battlefield without clear directive as to exactly what their mission is.
This is not to indicate a vote for or against intercession in the Iranian operations but simply an observation as to the hazardous situation our present administration is placing our young men and women of the greatest armed forces known to man in history while also leaving the entire Middle East region in confusion and chaos which is another dangerous outcome to the administrations indecision and confusion.
Statements from the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department leave this retired sailor with a dizzy head trying to understanding our mission and objectives. I continue, and ask you to pray for our troops as we seem to haphazardly use them as yet another political toy.
Meanwhile, President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry continue with negotiations with Iranian leaders concerning their nuclear weapons programs where there seems to be total confusion between U.S. and Iranian statements concerning those agreement talks.
