Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the IDF General Staff on Monday, reminding them, among other things, of the existential threat to the Jewish State from Iran. “The meaning of independence, in my view, is, first of all, the ability to defend yourself,” Netanyahu said. “To the growing threats around us we have a response, which is found in this room. I rely on you, chief-of-staff, and I rely on the IDF. The people of Israel rely on you.” The comments come as negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 nuclear powers (US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) are set to resume later this month, with Iranian officials making several bellicose statements seeming to directly contradict what the US says was previously agreed to and other powers making still more contradictory statements disagreeing with both Washington and Teheran.
