Politics and Religion—Between Friends by Betty Fritz
As we all know, there are two subjects we should not discuss…. unless we really want to argue with somebody…politics and religion. Unless, like me, you are fortunate enough to find a friend with whom you can agree to disagree. My friend, Brenda and I often discuss the events of the day and lately most of them involve these two dreaded subjects. Though our backgrounds are similar, our beliefs come from different religions and cultures. For the most part though, we see eye to eye on things and pretty well know what each other thinks. We know how to get our points across without causing bad feelings. It’s called respect. If only politicians could learn this art of mutual respect, maybe even Congress and the President could get along.
It seems today that any comment one makes is misconstrued by some as being judgmental. Our opinions and beliefs are bound to offend somebody…especially when Christians profess their faith or simply practice it. It wasn’t all that long ago that being a person of great faith was a good thing and our Lord was welcome most anywhere….along with the American flag. It is hard living in a world where our faith is mocked and our flag is walked on. The authority of our police force is challenged at every turn and the races are at odds as in the past. How are we ever to see a change for the better when so many are making unwise choices?
It surprises me that so few of our church leaders are speaking out about the persecution and offenses aimed at the church. We must all ban together and defend our freedoms if any are to remain in place in the foreseeable future. The church is not a collection of buildings. We, as God’s people and followers of Jesus Christ, make up His church. He is the foundation on which our faith is built and we must stand firm in our beliefs and continue to grow in order to honor Him. To grow we must be sharing the Gospel on a personal level and from our own experiences….especially among our friends and family.
Some good news though…in the field of politics: Many of the presidential candidates seem to be strong Christians who could make a real difference in the direction our country takes after the next election. We need to get to know all we can about the candidates and pray for wisdom in our choices. The 2016 Presidential election could very well be the most important one ever. As Christians we have a responsibility to vote.
As for religion, revival has begun and is spreading in many areas. Though we don’t hear about it as much…. as bad news has a faster traveling speed. The Lord is still working in our lives and in our nation. Franklin Graham is planning to visit all 50 states within the next year to spread the good news of Jesus. We all need to be reminded often and others need to know that we serve a risen Savior and God is not willing that one of us should perish! The greatest power that exists is in the name of JESUS! He is the one hope we have to turn our country around.

About Betty Fritz:
My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls.
I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grand children grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
AMEN Betty!!! AMEN!!!!
