Pope Francis Says Anyone Who Fails to Recognize Israel is Guilty of Anti-Semitism

Portuguese-Israeli journalist Henrique Cymerman on Thursday quoted Pope Francis as saying that “anyone who does not recognize the Jewish people and the State of Israel – and their right to exist – is guilty of anti-Semitism.” Meanwhile, Principals and teachers at private Christian schools in Israel, many of which have been operated by various Catholic and Eastern Orthodox denominations since Ottoman times, protested this week against government plans to lower their funding levels, following a move last year to limit the amount of money tuition money they were allowed to charge the families of their pupils. The educators accused the government of lowering funding to pressure them into joining the public school system, which would require them to include subjects in the curriculum that would endanger their Christian character as well as lower their academic standards.
