Frank Haley of KDAZ AM730 Reports: RIO RANCHO,NM — As of last evening, no news was good news for Rio Rancho’s economy after days of speculation that Intel would begin a round of layoffs today.
As of last year, there were about 2800 employees at the company’s Rio Rancho facility. But just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t.
Last week, an Oregon newspaper obtained a leaked internal memo that said cuts were coming, possibly across the board. It didn’t say how many people would lose their jobs though.
When first hearing of the rumor ten days ago, an Intel spokesperson in Rio Rancho said they had not heard of any plans for layoffs in Rio Rancho, and also said they wouldn’t comment on internal documents.
