Frank Haley of KDAZ AM730 reports: Intel is laying off hundreds of workers this week at the company’s Chandler, Arizona plant, amid rumors the company plans to do the same at Rio Rancho’s plant.
The layoffs come amid low sales of the company’s personal computer components in the first quarter. The Chandler plant employs about 11,000 people.
A company memo to employees Tuesday said that the layoffs will involve “generally no more than a few hundred employees” at any site.
Last week, a leaked internal memo said cuts were coming, possibly across the board. An Intel spokesperson said they had not heard of any plans for layoffs at the Rio Rancho plant.
