ICEJ NEWS REPORTS: Iran deal
The US State Department released a report on Friday detailing the extensive worldwide support Iran gives to terrorist organizations which target Israel. As in previous years, the main focus of this support is the Hamas terror militia in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon, with Iran recently boasting of having supplied with missiles that can accurately strike military and civilian targets inside Israel. The report also referred to Israel as a “committed counterterrorism partner.” It comes as Iranian diplomats continue to meet with their counterparts in the P5+1 (US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) to discuss the Islamic Republic’s renegade nuclear program. Several Western diplomats have privately noted that the Iranians are obstinately refusing to budge from their maximalist positions in the talks, making it unlikely that the 30 June deadline for a final deal will be met.

Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament voted over the weekend to refuse access to international inspectors to military sites and scientists as part of any deal. Additionally, they voted to include amendments which would limit their ability to have oversight for any deal the government ultimately arrives at with the P5+1. The power to review the deal was transferred to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, chaired by President Hassan Rohani.
