What impact can the tiny Village of Reserve, NM have on the overwhelming nightmare of human trafficking?
What difference can a small group of 15-20 women make?
The statistics are daunting:
*According to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services, human trafficking is the fastest growing and second largest criminal industry in the world today (second only to drug trafficking and tied with illegal arms trafficking).
*Human trafficking is the modern-day slave trade.
*There are an estimated 27 million slaves in the world today.
*Each year, thousands of slaves are trafficked into the U.S.
*$90 is the average cost of a human slave.
*Think that slavery was abolished 150 years ago: Think again! There are more people enslaved today than at any other time in human history.
On June 26, that UNDAUNTED group of women were joined by some 40 other people from all denominations and non-denominations, from four communities within Catron County, from nearby Arizona to raise funds to support the A21Campaign and to raise awareness of the horrific atrocity of human trafficking.
The faith goal was $2,500, but God had a much bigger plan. After two bake sales, a one day raffle, and much outreach both online and within the communities a whooping $5,070.28 was collected…and more pledges are expected to come in over the next few days!
We are in awe of the wonderful God we serve and humbled that He would do such a mighty work through our little multi-denominational women’s Bible study group. He indeed has come to set the captives free, and He is accomplishing that through the obedience of His people.
Anyone interested in more information about human trafficking or wanting to create a fundraiser should go to www.a21.org to learn more. And, it not too late to contribute online to Reserve Can Make a Big Difference athttps://www.a21.org/fundraising.php?id=1187.
