Egypt begins naval exercises with Russia
The naval forces of Russia and Egypt conducted a first of their kind joint exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean on Wednesday. “The active phase of joint Russian-Egyptian naval exercises called The Bridge of Friendship-2015 started today in the Mediterranean Sea near the shores of Egypt,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement. “With support from aviation, the Russian and Egyptian naval ships will perform tasks with the aim of protecting sea lanes from various threats.” Also on Wednesday, a suicide terror attack occurred near the ancient Egyptian Karnak Temple in the southern city of Luxor. It was the second such attack targeting Egypt’s fragile tourism industry in the last several days.
