Leaders and citizens of Arab countries took to the airwaves, the internet and the streets this week to speak out about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) announced on Tuesday regarding Iran’s renegade nuclear program. Editorials in various Arab-language news outlets angrily denounced what was described as a Western betrayal of Arab and Sunni interests in the Middle East in favor of Iranian and Shi’ite interests. Also, Arab diplomats quietly and sometimes loudly echoed Israeli concerns about the infusion of cash Iran could soon receive which would aid it in its support for various terrorist organizations and militias in the region which are battling Sunni opponents. “This agreement, from our point of view, represents an indirect threat to Gulf and Arab interests and peace,” said Tariq Al Shammari, a senior analyst from Saudi Arabia.
