Arab Rulers and the War on Terror!

 Last week, Islamic terrorists in Sinai carried out their largest-ever attack on Egyptian forces operating in the war-torn peninsula. In a coordinated series of attacks, over 300 jihadists linked to Islamic State assaulted some 15 checkpoints and military bases using heavy weapons, anti-aircraft guns and suicide bombers. The death toll was estimated at over 100 casualties, including Egyptian troops, terror militiamen and civilians. This was very troubling news, especially for Israel right next door! In response, the IDF beefed up its presence along its border with Sinai, and even temporarily closed one of the main highways to the southern port city of Eilat. Israeli officials have also charged that Hamas in Gaza is helping the Islamic jihadists in Sinai in their on-going war with the Egyptian regime. And this all raises important questions about how willing and able are the leaders of key Sunni Arab countries to help us wage the war on Islamic terrorism. So are the rulers in Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and other Arab states doing enough to defeat this global threat in their own backyard? How threatened are these regimes themselves by jihadist militias like al-Qaeda and the Islamic State? And are they even willing to cooperate with Israel in the war on terror? Arab Rulers and the War on Terror! That’s our focus this week here on Front Page Jerusalem. We’ll hear from a leading Israeli security analyst on whether leaders in the Arab world are doing enough to help in the fight against Islamic jihadists. Israel’s Options on Iran!

 As high-level diplomatic talks between the P5+1 nations and Iran continued to drag out over recent weeks, Israeli leaders were keeping an eye on the negotiations in Vienna and weighing its potential impact on the region. With Iranian officials making almost daily threats to destroy the Jewish state, no country has more reason to be worried about a bad deal with Tehran than Israel. And with the outcome of the talks still in doubt, Jerusalem was facing several possible scenarios, each one fraught with perils. A good deal would still leave Israel facing threats from Iranian proxy militias on all sides. A bad deal means Israel would have less support from the international community in confronting the Iranian nuclear threat. And no deal at all would leave Iran free to continue its drive for nuclear armaments. So what are Israel’s biggest concerns in the various possible outcomes of the Iranian nuclear talks? How should Israel respond to the different scenarios? What are other countries in the region doing to prepare for an Iran deal? And how will the US be able to keep its security commitments to Israel and other regional allies if it finalizes a deal with Iran? Israel’s Options on Iran!
