The Lord desires to have a relationship with His creation. That’s why He sent his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was the Lamb who was slain and paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to bridge the gap that sin caused. Jesus rose again from the grave and now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for each of us.
Once we accept Christ as our personal Savior, we are to grow in personal intimacy with Him. Imagine getting married and never ever spending time with your spouse again. That’s how many believers treat their relationship with the Lord.
When we make that commitment to serve the Lord, we need to remain in fellowship with Him. Spending time with Him. It doesn’t matter where we are in our walk with the Lord, we can always go deeper with Him. He desires a personal, intimate relationship with each one of us.
How do we get more personal with the Lord? Through HIS Word. Daily reading of the Word. Meditating on the Word. Hearing sound doctrinal teachings of the Word. Confessing God’s word outloud. Praying God’s Word. And lifting up praise and thanksgiving to our Lord.
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalm 42:1-2 NKJV
Many years ago, my pastor taught me to set a daily appointment with God and to keep it. I followed my pastor’s example. Each morning I set my alarm clock at 5 a.m., got out of bed, poured a cup of coffee, picked up my journal along with my Bible, and then sat down in a special place to meet with the Lord.
I started with reading a Proverb a day. If today were the 17th of the month, I would read Proverb 17. I would write down in my journal any verses that I felt applied to me and how I was to respond to it.
Ever since I started that routine all those years ago, I have kept my daily appointment. Granted, sometimes my appointment time changes and it does require some sacrifice depending on the demands of my schedule. But this is one appointment I never want to miss as it has kept my relationship with the Lord growing.
Meeting with the Lord and growing a personal relationship with Him is not a magic formula. God is not a genie we can put in a bottle who will change our lives at a whim. We must submit ourselves to HIM and HIS ways. By doing so, we grow in relationship with Him. It takes time to develop relationship, but I encourage you to start today.
Let’s get personal with our Lord. How will you get started today developing a more intimate relationship with our Savior?
