New Mexico Sheriff and Deputies Without Patrol Cars

Pastor Dewey Note: I have never heard of such craziness! Sheriff Andy Taylor didn’t carry a gun, but he had a patrol car and Barney had one bullet!  Frank Haley of KDAZ AM730 Reports: LOS ALAMOS COUNTY- —A New Mexico sheriff and his entire department don’t have an official car to patrol the streets. Since he was elected five years ago, Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero and his deputies have been using their personal vehicles. That’s because the county won’t provide them with any patrol cars. The county manager said things in Los Alamos are done differently than the rest of New Mexico. He said local rules limit the duties of sheriff and the duties of sheriff aren’t supposed to duplicate the police department. The sheriff argues state law trumps that.
