Top Democrat Speaks Out Against Obama’s Iran Deal

Charles Schumer of New York on Thursday became the first Democrat in the US Senate to declare his opposition to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding Iran’s renegade nuclear program. “The agreement would allow Iran, after ten to fifteen years, to be a nuclear threshold state with the blessing of the world community,” Schumer said. “To me, the very real risk that Iran will not moderate and will, instead, use the agreement to pursue its nefarious goals is too great.” Although 15 other Senate Democrats have already declared their intention to vote in favor of the JCPOA, Schumer’s position is likely to carry great weight among the remaining members of the Caucus. Also on Thursday, Congressman Eliot Engel (D-New York), ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a senior Jewish member, also declared his opposition to the JCPOA. Read More
