SPGNM LOTTERY ROAST/DAY OF ACTION AGAINST PREDATORY GAMBLING
On Saturday,
September 19, Stop Predatory Gambling New Mexico joined over a
hundred similar
activities in the U.S. protesting government sponsored and
promoted predatory
gambling, as well as groups in Italy, England and
Australia with a “Lottery
Roast.”
Dr. Guy Clark set hundreds of discarded, loosing lottery tickets
ablaze in
front of the NM Lottery office on Osuna Rd, indicating disdain for
the
lottery CEO’s efforts to get the legislature to pass legislation
legalizing
credit card, debit card and online purchasing of lottery
tickets.
SPGNM will be involved in fighting legislation in the 2016
legislative
session that would expand predatory gambling in this manner. Dr.
Clark also
challenged lottery director, David Barden, to a debate on the merits
of his
proposal in the first week of December. Location and exact date to
be
determined soon.
