Iran wins, Islam wins, terrorism advances
On a day when we should most remember the impact of terrorism, the suites on Capital Hill, elected by the people to do the right thing, can’t mount an opposition to terrorism even when they have a majority. There is more to being opposed to something than lip service emailed back to to the district and sound bytes for the local TV. The Republicans in the Senate couldn’t muster enough support to break a filibuster by the Democrats on Iran. Imagine anyone voting to allow a nuclear Iran! These party line hacks swallowed the “president’s” rhetoric about Iran and peace and forbid an up or down vote. They know how to put up opposition. But the Republicans are weak when it counts the most. Iran wins.
Trouble is, in this case, Iran winning and the “president” of the United States winning are the same. Oh, and gloat he did. In a statement issued by the White House, he said: “This vote is a victory for diplomacy, for American national security, and for the safety and security of the world. For nearly two years, we negotiated from a position of strength to reach an agreement that meets our core objectives…Today, I am heartened that so many Senators judged this deal on the merits, and am gratified by the strong support of lawmakers and citizens alike.” Meanwhile, the Ayatollah in Iran is calling us “the Great Satan” and vowing that Israel will be a mere memory within the next 25 years.
Now House Speaker John Boehner has some three-vote scheme designed to derail the Democrats on Iran. Problem is, if any vote is not veto-proof, Iran wins. So it is kind of like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. A lot of good men and women have been lobbying Congress for a “no” vote on Iran. There have been a lot of pictures surfacing of meetings with Boehner and others. I guess the pictures mean they are lending an ear to say they support opposing the Iranian nuclear deal. It seems, however, they are just playing the game. And the poor souls who meet with them are extending their heartfelt faith that they are not part of the game. But they are merely tokens on the board of political gamesmanship.
The Republicans are no opposition. They talk a good game. The Democrats are on the wrong side of history– much as they have been throughout–who supported slavery, opposed civil rights legislation, supported abortion, supported redefining marriage? So you have a two-party system that cannot find its way to doing what is right. We have a “president” who has been aimed like a missile in aiding and abetting Marxist Islam. And you have us–who love the Lord, want to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. Psalm 94:16 asks, “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?” Verse 17 answers, “Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.” Verse 20 asks,”Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frames mischief by a law?” This is a day of infamy. Let us lean on the Lord, our buckler.
