US Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Saturday that Israel and Jordan have agreed to install cameras on the Temple Mount to keep the area under 24-hour surveillance as part of a plan to lower tensions in Jerusalem and hopefully the entire region which have been partially responsible for a wave of terrorist attacks against Israelis. “This will provide comprehensive visibility and transparency, and that could really be a game changer in discouraging anybody from disturbing the sanctity of this holy site,” Kerry said. Kerry’s remarks, which also included a statement appearing to agree with Israeli charges that “false perceptions” about Israel’s intentions on the Temple Mount, which have been encouraged by Palestinian Authority officials, are responsible for the recent spike in violence, followed several hours of meetings with Israeli officials, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah.
