The Jewish student organization Hillel Russia was in mounring Monday following the announcement that one of its former program directors, Anna Tishinskaya, 27, was among the 224 passengers and crew of a chartered Kogalymavia (Metrojet ) air passenger jet killed on Saturday when the aircraft went down in a remote region of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Pilots on the Airbus A321, flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, radioed that they were experiencing problems shortly before dropping off the radar. Claims by the Islamic State (IS) terror militia that they were responsible for downing the aircraft were being treated with cautious skepticism by analysts, although nothing is being ruled out at this point and in any case the crash is likely to do even more damage to Egypt’s battered tourism industry.
