British aircraft began attacking positions of the Islamic State (IS) terror militia in Syria Thursday morning, shortly after a vote to authorize the attacks passed the House of Commons by a vote of 397-223. “Do we work with our allies to degrade and destroy this threat and do we go after these terrorists in their heartlands, from where they are plotting to kill British people?” British PM David Cameron said during the debate preceding the vote. “Or do we sit back and wait for them to attack us?” The British move was welcomed in Washington as US officials have asked their allies to take on more of the burden of battling IS, even if the contribution is in a non-combat role.
