UPDATED: 12/29/16:

I received the news early this morning that my Dear Friend and mentor Ken Coe passed onto glory! Ken passed away at home around 2am, he was under Hospice care. Ken was 78 years of age. I worked for Ken and his lovely wife DeEtta at WLOI/WCOE radio in Laporte, Indiana in the early 80’s. I do not know if I have ever had as much fun in my 40 years in Broadcasting, as I did working for Ken and DeEtta! Ken is a member of the Indiana Broadcasters Hall-of-Fame. Serving the people of the Laporte County area was tops with Ken. He always made sure the stations had solid local news and sports coverage. There are not many family owned radio stations left in America. Ken also hosted the program “Sound off”, where listeners could call in and voice their opinion on local and state news. Much good came out of that program with action being taken by public officials on the concerns of listeners. I was blessed to host the program from time to time when I worked at the stations.

If there was a concern of residents in Laporte County, Ken made sure it was covered by his news department. WCOE has been known as the “Indiana Sports Leader” having broadcast more local sports than any other stations.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Haverstock Funeral Home in Laporte, Indiana.

Please keep DeEtta and the entire family in your prayers.

Gonna miss you BIG GUY!

My Tribute to Ken Coe

A man I deeply love is Ken Coe, Broadcast legend from Laporte, Indiana WLOI/WCO is ill. I worked for Ken and his lovely wife DeEtta for 5 years back in the early 80’s. Ken at one time was President of the Indiana Broadcasters Association. I learned a great deal from this man about local radio, how to relate to your audience. How to serve. I talked to him today.Ken coe Please put Ken on your prayer list, pray for a miracle for Ken and DeEtta, a miracle healing! In Jesus name we ask, Amen!

This is from Ken’s niece Paula Carr……..

Happy NYE, As a family we are asking for any positive thoughts and prayers for my Uncle Ken during this holiday season and on the eve of this New year. He has been in the hospital twice in the past 9 days. He has had fluid in both lungs removed, a stint put in and now surgery next week. He hasn’t been able to eat or keep anything down for (I believe) 3 days now, This was all sudden and unexpected. My Aunt has so much on her plate right now and could also use prayers and love as well.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out to the Coe family during this past week, we all appreciate the love and support deeply. Wishing everyone a very health filled, postive and Happy 2016
