I enjoy taking some of the quizzes Facebook offers from time to time and the ones that tell you who you are, etc. Sometimes, they even get it right! Recently it asked: which Bible verse defines you? It gave me Psalm 73: 28…”But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.” KJV
I went back and read the entire chapter and found it talks about being envious of the foolish. When we look at the prosperity of the wicked, their strength seems to remain firm even to death.
Psalm 73: 5-12 ” They are not in trouble like other men; neither are they plagued like other men. 6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. 7 Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than heart could wish. 8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. 9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. 10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. 11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? 12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.”
73:17 “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.”
So many times we might find ourselves wondering why, when so many things happen to upset us, that God, whom we put our faith in, seems to show favor to those who have no concept of who He is? Why do we suffer so, when everything they touch seems to turn to gold?
Then, when we draw near to God and enter the sanctuary of His love, we know what their end will be. As if awakening from a bad dream, we realize how blessed we truly are and realize we are much better off. Psalm 73: 22 “So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.”
Even though we doubt, God is faithful and He draws us back into His wisdom and righteousness. He will guide us with His counsel and never let go of our hand. 73:26 “My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.”
Truly, it is good for me (us) to draw near to God!
