I’ve read quite a few comments and opinions about the Republican debates last night and would like to offer my own. I feel like most of the candidates are sincere about wanting to make America better and get us back to being the strongest nation in the world. We all agree that our current President has done nothing but bring shame and dishonor to our country by apologizing every chance he gets. In his eyes he can do no wrong as pointed out by his state of the union speech.
It seems to me that one thing was maybe confirmed during these debates and that was: even though all the other candidates don’t agree with Donald Trump, they realize that he just might win the nomination. If he does, I think most of them will do all they can to see that he wins the election as well. I felt a stronger sense of unity last night among the candidates, so that is a positive. I totally have enjoyed all the debates for the fact that I do now know more about each of the men who are running, and they all have some good ideas and make strong points concerning many critical issues we face right now.
I think Trump and Cruz are now the two favorites, with Marco Rubio a close third. I was delighted to hear the discussion on the issue of fair trade. Each of them seemed to know what they were talking about and made valid points. Hopefully, some of these changes in our trading with China and other countries can be put in place. Nothing ever works if it isn’t tried. It is clear that a lot of changes need to be made.
Jeb Bush had a few more intelligent remarks to make than usual and I was glad to see Dr. Carson speak up and demand time to speak also. Each had their best game face on and did a good job of defense as well as attacking. All the back and forth between Cruz and Rubio was a little confusing as to who did what when and who voted for or against one thing and another….even confusing to comment on it. I think all the candidates have changed their minds or opinions on certain issues from time to time and why not? They are all human and we all change our minds at times.
My top priority in this race for President is to elect someone who can and will turn our country back to God. Ben Carson is all about doing this and making a better future for our children and grandchildren. I also want to see a change in the taxing system and more fairness in trading with other countries. Let’s face it, everything comes down to money and the best way to handle it. We need a strong economy and better paying jobs along with better education opportunities. We’ve become a land of incentives more so than a land of opportunity.
For republicans it is also an issue of choosing the one candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton….or possibly Sanders. Most democrats will probably vote for either of them just because they are democrats too….some for Hillary just because she’s a woman. I hope if we’ve learned nothing else in the last eight years it is: The color of one’s skin or their gender is not a basis on which one should cast a vote. I pray we will all try to choose the one we feel will do the best job of leading us back to being the America we all love and are proud of. The land of the free and the home of the brave where God is the true leader and His name is above all others.
Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson….whoever wins the nomination, let us pray that God will bless our country once again with a true leader and that 2016 will mark the beginning of a brighter future for America and the world.
