Kerry declares dispute with Israel over Iran deal ‘over’
US Secretary of State John Kerry declared on Thursday that “the fight’s over” between the Israeli and US governments, regarding the Iranian nuclear deal. “I think (Israeli PM Netanyahu) recognized that the fight’s over and we can move on,” CNN quoted Kerry as saying, shortly after the two met on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In related news, a growing dispute has emerged within Iran between the so-called “moderate” camp led by President Hassan Rohani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over the list of candidates which have been approved to run in upcoming parliamentary elections. The Guardian’s Council, a group of clerics considered close to Khamenei, rejected the petitions of thousands of candidates considered to be part of the “moderate” faction, prompting Rohani to issue a bitter complaint Thursday, while supporters of both sides have taken to traditional and social media in an escalating war of words.
