Saudi Arabia Cuts Ties With Iran

Saudi Arabia said it severed ties today with Iran over the storming of the Saudi embassy in Tehran. The deteriorating relations between the already tense regional rivals come after the kingdom’s execution of a prominent Shi’ite cleric. The European Union’s foreign policy chief joined the U.S.’ warning to Iran that renewed tension between Shi’ite Iran and Saudi Arabia’s Sunni monarchy could wreck efforts to find a political solution for the crisis in Syria.
