Sunni States Line Up With Saudi Arabia in Dispute With Iran

As tensions continue to boil between Iran and Saudi Arabia, nuclear-armed Pakistan has taken the step of announcing that it would respond militarily to any threat to Saudi Arabia, raising the specter for Iran of a two-front conflict should open hostilities commence. The statement came on the same day as a meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League issued a statement of solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemning Iran for what it described as Teheran’s patterns of “meddling in Arab affairs and undermining regional stability.” The Gulf Cooperation Council issued a similar statement on Saturday.
