We have all heard the story of the tortoise and the hare….the rabbit and the turtle. Well, perhaps this story is coming to life in the story being played out by the Republican party candidates right now.
We have Donald Trump, who is so sure of himself and knows he is going to win the Republican nomination, he decides to boycott the last debate in Iowa…. opting instead to lead a fund-raiser for our veterans in the same city.
This decision seems to come from “The Donald” due to the disastrous events that took place at the first debate. Fox News, hosted both events and aparently Trump could not stand the thought of facing more questions from their moderator, Megyn Kelly. It’s a fact that Ms. Kelly did seem to be determined to take down Mr. Trump at the first debate. In fact Fox News itself seemed to hold the opinion that Donald Trump should not even be in the race, due to the fact that he is not a politician….a fact that attracted most of his followers.
God knows, and most of us realize, this country needs a change; not only a change in leadership, but a change in the attitude among the people. We cannot continue to move in the direction we’re headed and expect things to get any better. The majority of Republican voters seem to be for Donald Trump. He is a businessman with a record of making successful deals. He says he doesn’t want the job of President necessarily, but we NEED him to make our country great again….by bringing in the big bucks and changing the way we deal with other countries, building a wall and keeping immigrants out, especially Muslims.
I personally, cannot imagine what the country would be like were it being run by Donald Trump. He seems to thrive on conflict and focuses on personal issues when making decisions….such as deciding not to attend the debate. Some say it was a strategy to make things harder on Ted Cruz, his closest competitor, which it seemed to do, but still I wonder…. The expressions on his face is enough to make one cringe. He is clearly angry, as most Republicans are, at the way our country has been run, but is an angry country one that can succeed in bringing people together to solve our problems, or will it just create more division?
We the people, have a great decision to make, and we must not make it out of anger, but with great discernment. We need to listen to and get to know more about every candidate in order to make a wise choice. Google them, visit their websites, whatever it takes to know who you’re voting for.
Christians especially need to pray and ask God’s guidance before casting a vote, but DO vote. Don’t let others make the decision for us. We have to stand up and choose a leader who will represent us and protect our religious freedoms as well as others.
Most of the candidates have professed their faith in God and I believe some are very sincere. I feel that while The Hair is enjoying his time as the front-runner, there is one, a tortoise, that just might step up and win the race. Let’s pray.
